Malmö International Organ Festival 2019
April 26th–May 5th

The new organ will be the focal point of this ten-day-long festival, with the organ’s inauguration taking place on Saturday 27 April at 1 p.m.

The new organ concept “New sounds at St Petri” comprises four organs integrated in a single console, which will be placed in the chancel. The organ will be the largest in northern Europe in terms of manuals and registers – 205 registers, including transmissions and carillons – and with the use of touchscreens, the new organ’s sonic potential is endless. It will be inaugurated at the Malmö International Organ Festival, which takes place over ten days, 26 April–5 May, in St Petri church. The organ will then take centre stage in many ways: educationally and musically, as an instrument for soloists and accompanists, for church services and as a concert organ.

During the organ festival, we will experience church services and organ concerts with choirs, orchestras and organists, with specially scored music, such as the opening and conclusion of Mahler’s eighth symphony in a special morning service on 28 April, as well as three first performances of new works by B Tommy Andersson, Staffan Storm and Trevor Grahl. In addition to the church’s own organists and cantors in the Malmö parish, there will also be visiting international organists and Swedish organists with international careers taking part. The inaugural concert with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra under the direction of principal conductor Marc Soustrot and organist Carl Adam Landström takes place on 27 April 1 p.m.

Organ music-making with children and young people will also be highlighted at the morning service on 5 May, as well as a special masterclass for young organists.

Entry to concerts at the Organ Festival is free, but tickets are required for the Inauguration Concert 27 April. A maximum of 2 tickets per person – first come, first served.
